Why Should You Support Local Businesses?

In today's society, consumer's are squeezing every penny they can out of all of us to create the more expensive & up to date luxuries. Local businesses count on your support to help them support themselves & their family. Even more so right now with the pandemic that seems to have lasted forever. You today might be deciding on where you should spend your hard-earned money on whether it be new clothes, food, or a gift for a friend..you may want to consider the small businesses in your area & how it's beneficial to support these locally independent owners. Here are some things to consider.

If you think about it, when you spend money on local businesses..that money stays within the community! You essentially are supporting your local economy rather than throwing your money at nationally owned businesses.

  • Local businesses are more likely to utilize other local businesses such as banks, service providers, farms & more.

Other than local businesses supporting the economy, consider the fact these small owners are also your neighbors!

  • Many small local businesses start their business based off of inspiration in their own area or home town!

  • These owners are definitely cared about & know how they can contribute to their own community.

Due to the days that we live in, we might find it easier to go to a fast food place or big national chain. However, many areas have options of local businesses, even online! Many find it easier to sell online & all you have to do is little more research on Instagram or Facebook & check who is selling what in your area!

  • Many small businesses sell online because they cannot afford to rent a place or it's easier to sell out of the comfort of their own home

  • Try asking a small business for samples. Some owners don't mind giving small freebies for you to try. You never know if you like it, til you try it!

  • Purchase something small. You do not need to spend a lot of money if you do not feel like it but a little does go a long way. This can include buying a small gift for someone.

  • If you cannot support a small business because you don't have the money or it's targeted at a certain group of people you don't fit into..then consider sharing their posts. Help them get their name out if you like the products or services that they offer. This is something that can go a long way for a business that you think is worth it.

  • Search for local events near you. You may even visit your local farmers market, gym, nursery or go to a local service provider to help out with your gardening or even car.

Also, small businesses have a lower impact on our environment. Less negative impact on nature.

  • Many local owned businesses tend to make local purchases, which requires less transportation & pollution.

  • We may not see the full negative impact big consumers have on our environment but it definitely will show in the future with our future kids & grandchildren.

  • You may even find a local business that recycles, uses natural resources & supports organizations like donating some of the finds they make towards ocean life or foresr reserves.

  • There may even a local farmers near you that provides grass-fed meats, non-GMO products, & naturally just more organic.

Next time you decide to go shopping for groceries, gifts or some new products for yourself..consider the small businesses around you. Check them out. See the products or services that they have to offer. A lot of the times you will find something within these businesses that are unique, something you cannot find anywhere else or it may be cheaper and it's to your liking. This essentially, will help the owner to provide more for their community!
